Evolution of Art: Follow-Up on Picasso Lessons Reception

Wow! I just had to share this note I received from Nancy Mercer, LCSW, the President and CEO of the PHILLIPS Programs. She describes the wonderful evening at Beanetics Coffee ROasters last Saturday night and absolutely captures the events of the evening perfectly!

*What an evening we had!*

Sarah Caldwell and Mary Lynch did a great job of setting up PHILLIP's first community art show at the local Beanetic's Coffee House in Annandale. The student's art work was hung by Jennifer Judelsohn of Neshama
Soulworks  Studio. The Beanetics owner and Barista's brewed some fantastic Ethiopian coffee for the event and provided miniature cupcakes and cookies as a light snack. The mood was further set by two acoustic artists who played music in the  background.

Sarah with husband and PHILLIP's "regular", Chris were first to arrive and set up the small coffee shop.* Nancy* with her father arrived  at the same time as Tyler, one of our artists!  This was Tyler's first evening event with PHILLIPS and he enjoyed it with  his parents and brother.  The small coffee house was quickly becoming crowded!  (FYI:Tyler could have been a Barista himself, as he played the role of the  perfect host, showing off the artwork and making sure everyone had coffee  "the way they like it." )

Then the arrival of *Art~Mary* and* Rich*--it was like a movie star had arrived! Art~Mary was followed in by Joseph and his family. (FYI:  Joseph had spent the day in Baltimore helping run a beauty pageant for  little beauty queens.)  Soon after Barbara Alexander, with son Ryan in tow walked in followed  by Emily House and Susie Bristow and their husbands.

The goals of the evening were to educate the community about PHILLIPS  Programs--as well as raise money for the Art program.  Both were accomplished.

"We never knew there was a school on the corner across from the  mall...and we have lived here for years!'
  "The art work is spectacular!"
Tyler and Joseph were particularly thrilled to see that their art work  was priced at $100.00 each--and one picture was sold before the night was  over!"

The Art work is up all month--everyone is encouraged to drop in, get a cup  of coffee and let the folks at Beanetics it means a great deal to us that they  took the time to  "Create Opportunities for the kids, youth and families PHILLIPS serves!"
